Dental Juvederm Cosmetic Treatments

Juvederm Columbia, SC

Juvederm® is a gel made with hyaluronic acid, which is a natural component in the skin. It is involved in the body’s natural healing processes. Juvederm injections have shown to restore firmer, smoother skin. Juvederm is a cosmetic treatment that helps reduce wrinkles and other signs of aging.

What is Juvederm?

Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the human body. It is involved in the healing process, helping to repair scar tissue. Juvederm is a dermal filler. It works by replacing hyaluronic acid in the skin. This, in turn, helps collagen production, keeping the skin looking full and healthy.

As people age, collagen loss makes the skin gradually looser. Eventually, it forms folds and wrinkles. Juvederm can slow and somewhat reverse this process. It tightens and firms the skin, taking years off a patient’s face. Many patients report improved self-esteem following cosmetic treatments.

Before Juvederm and similar modern treatments, dermal fillers used direct collagen injections. Earlier still, cosmetic science experimented with silicon as a dermal filler. Modern hyaluronic acid treatments are far more effective and achieve better results. Juvederm can flesh out sunken cheeks, restore sagging skin and help repair scarring.

What can Juvederm do as a dental cosmetic?

Juvederm is not strictly a dental treatment. It is a cosmetic treatment, used around the lips and mouth. Alongside dental treatments to improve a person’s smile, Juvederm can lift and smooth the skin around the mouth. Juvederm is injected into the skin around the mouth. From there, it spreads to the lines in the face.

After about a week, Juvederm is fully integrated with the skin. As it works beneath the skin, the hyaluronic acid helps produce new collagen. This, in turn, fills in the wrinkles. The result is a natural-looking, lasting improvement in the patient’s appearance.

Besides the mouth, Juvederm can be used to restore the skin around the eyes, nose and cheeks. Unlike Botox, it does not interfere with the facial muscles or reduce facial expression. Juvederm can also be effective in reducing minor scars, such as those caused by acne. Juvederm treatments are quick, taking about 30 minutes to administer.

To minimize discomfort during the treatment, the dentist may also apply a topical anesthetic. There is no recovery time needed and the effects are noticeable instantly. The effects of Juvederm last from six to nine months. It can be safely repeated as necessary and is approved for use by the FDA.

Areas treated with Juvederm may be sensitive for a few days afterward. This will subside, leaving the skin fresh and supple. There are no common allergic reactions or other side effects to Juvederm. It is a temporary treatment, which fades on its own over time.
