How Dentists Use Juvederm Cosmetically

Juvederm Columbia, SC

Juvederm® is a popular dermal filler. It is a cosmetic treatment, similar to collagen injections. Juvederm fills and firms the skin, restoring looks lost to age. Dermal filler injections reduce wrinkles and can help repair scarring. It can also be effective to repair other damage to the skin.

What are dermal fillers?

A dermal filler is an injection to restore collagen to the skin. Juvederm and similar modern treatments use hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in the skin anyway. Hyaluronic acid is involved in the healing process and the production of collagen. As a cosmetic injection, Juvederm restores the collagen in the skin, making it appear younger again.

Over the course of life, the skin gradually loses collagen. At the same time, it becomes looser and forms wrinkles. Restoring the collagen reverses this effect. Alongside other dental cosmetics, Juvederm can make an amazing difference.

Dermal fillers can also repair damaged skin. They help heal scar tissue and fill out pockmarks and other indents in the skin. Unlike treatments of yesteryear, which added artificial fillers, Juvederm works with the body’s natural biochemistry. It is, thus, a more natural and effective treatment than older kinds of dermal fillers.

How does Juvederm work?

The treatment is injected into the skin, just below the surface. Once in the skin, it permeates and begins to react with the body’s natural collagen. The hyaluronic acid encourages the production of new collagen, refilling the skin and fleshing out wrinkles. It takes about a week for the filler to do its full work. From there, the treatment remains effective for six to nine months.

Juvederm can be used to improve the skin of the lips, jawline, cheeks, nose and eyes. The treatment takes around half an hour to perform. It is a non-invasive and non-surgical procedure. It can also be safely repeated as required. Juvederm is a well-established cosmetic treatment.

Are there any side effects?

There may be some discomfort during the injections. To reduce this, the dentist may use an anesthetic cream to numb the surface of the skin. Following the treatment, the patient may experience some swelling. This is normal and will vanish within a few days. There is no other recovery time associated to Juvederm.

Because it uses the body’s own natural substances, Juvederm has no known allergic reactions. Juvederm is also approved for use by the FDA. Should the patient for any reason be dissatisfied, the effects are temporary. Most patients report immediate positive improvement following Juvederm treatment. A new lease of life may be only a brief cosmetic treatment away.
